As I try to recycle materials when I can I have taken to collecting LARGE amounts of soda cans....its free...its easy to acquire...and its fun watching those cans melt!!! This meant that I must crush the cans down to a suitable size...1) so they fit into my homemade crucibles and 2) so there is less surface area available as I push the can into my melt. By crushing the cans I can submerge them (totally DRY) quickly which gives me less dross and slag and more useable material. I started out with two can crushers of the mechanical kind...I call them ArmStrong...they make your arm strong...they were cheap from Harbor Freight. I mounted one by the furnace area and another in the garage so I can quickly crush the cans as they are available...BUT..its WorK...and I'm sort of lazy I guess...so I wanted to build a device that would let me crush cans quickly without wearing myself out. I search on YouTube, saw lots and lots and lots of other peoples can cruchers and Knew I could build one too!! SO I started collecting the pieces and parts...I had an old airtank from a confetti machine...I sawed it up to become the crushing chamber. I got a really nice air valve controller on Ebay for cheap...picked up some fittings and hose at Home Depot and using bits of scrap angle iron from the shop I built a little stand. I think it looks like a can crushing donkey...so watch the video and enjoy...Remember to Work Safely and Don't Pinch Your Fingers!!!
